BEARCAT BLUES, SAINT VINCENTUPENDS
GENEVAWITH LATE GOAL

Latrobe, PA- Geneva′s men′s soccer team did something on Wednesday that it hadn′t done all year, lose a second game in a row. For the first time in 2007, the Golden Tornadoes have suffered back to back losses, which is a testament to the type of year Geneva has enjoyed up to this point. On Wednesday, Saint Vincent scored the game winner with less than four minutes remaining to send Geneva to a 2-1 loss and drop its overall record to 9-4. On the heals of a 1-0 loss to Malone College, Geneva and head coach Todd Beall were looking for a better effort from its young squad.

Beall left the field on Wednesday with bitter-sweet emotions. The second year head coach felt his team had put together its finest team effort of the season, but the results were certainly not what he was looking for on this day. Beall stressed that his team possessed the ball beautifully and were given ample opportunities to take the game away, but simply could not finish any chances.

A game that remained scoreless for the first 80 minutes, opened up in the final moments of the contest. After Saint Vincent scored with just under ten minutes to play, freshman Kenton Burkhart was awarded a penalty kick just two minutes later and was able to even the score.

Geneva′s momentum was short lived as the Bearcats took the lead back just four minutes later and gained a lead that they would never relinquish.

Geneva, a team that won just three matches all of 2006, has enjoyed a complete turnaround season in 2007. The Golden Tornadoes will have to thwart off a losing streak for the first time this year when they return home on Friday night.

The Golden Tornadoes are a perfect 6-0 at Merriman Athletic Complex and will put that record on the line when they host Waynesburg College on Friday night at 7 pm.
