FALK BROTHERS LEAD GENEVA AT CMU MEET

Pittsburgh, PA - It was girl′s day out for the Geneva women′s cross country team on Saturday at the Carnegie Mellon University Cross Country Invitational. In its final tune-up before the PAC championships next Saturday, Geneva′s men and women took part in one of the top races in the region on Saturday. While the men′s team finished with an overall 17th place finish out of 23 schools, it was the women′s team that stole the spotlight with a fourth place overall finish in a top field of 20 competing schools.

In men′s action, Phillip Falk finished the race with a time of 27:51 as Geneva′s top runner, which was good enough for 75th overall. Other men final times included Josh Falk at 29:07 and Ryan Thorn at 29:17. Geneva′s team posted 511 points, which was good enough to top the likes of PAC opponents Thiel, Westminster and Bethany.

While the men′s team gave a solid performance on Saturday, it was Geneva′s women′s team that posted their best effort of the season. Senior Susan Fletcher finished in 17th place with a time of 19:44, while teammate Rebecca VanRegenmorter just missed out on breaking the 20-minute barrier at 20:08, which was good enough for 28th place overall. Beth Bartolomeo and Sara Morrison crossed the finish line together, just one second after VanRegenmorter. Geneva posted 28th, 29th and 30th overall positions. Nicole Okerlund was 63rd overall in a time of exactly 21 minutes.

Indiana, PA won the women′s race with a total of 53 points, while Geneva′s 134 points was good enough for fourth place. In the men′s race, host Carnegie Mellon won the event with just 31 points, followed by NCAA Division I programs Duquesne and George Washington.

Geneva′s team will travel to Saint Vincent next Saturday to compete in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference championships, which will serve as another warm-up event for the NCCAA nationals at Cedarville University on November 10th.
