Saint Vincent (0-7) vs. Geneva (5-2)

Saturday, October 27, 2007

6:30 pm - Reeves Field - Beaver Falls, PA

All-Time Series: Geneva 5-4-1

Last Meeting: 1962 (Geneva 28-0)

"HOME STRETCH BEGINS"

Geneva will close out the regular season with three straight home games beginning with this week′s match-up against Saint Vincent College. Geneva and Saint Vincent have not met since the 1962 season and will renew a rivalry that first kicked off in 1930. Geneva holds a 5-4-1 advantage in the all-time series, but will be playing for the first time 45 years.

The Golden Tornadoes are coming off another dominating defensive performance in which they allowed just one first quarter touchdown to Thomas More before clamping down and controlling the football game. For the game, Thomas More managed just 21 rushing yards and was held to under 150 yards of total offense. Geneva used a 23-yard field goal from Nick DiPietro and a five-yard touchdown reception from Luke Duriancik to come from behind for the fifth victory of the season. While Geneva′s offense did just enough to get the victory, it was the defense that once again ruled the day. Adam Rose led the defense with ten tackles, including a pair of sacks. The sack master himself, Brian Wilson, made his presence felt with a pair of quarterback sacks on the final drive of the game to help seal the victory. Wilson is second in the President′s Athletic Conference with ten sacks and 18.5 tackles for loss.

While Geneva′s defense is ranked at the top of the PAC statistics, Saint Vincent is sitting in the basement. The Bearcats have allowed over 48 points per game and over 500 yards of total offense per contest. Mike Speal is expected to make his eighth start of the season on Saturday. Speal has completed only 38% of his passes for 522 yards. With three touchdown passes this year, Speal has also found the opponents eight times in 123 attempts. On the ground, Saint Vincent averages 75 yards per game and has been led by Logan Small′s 292 yards. Jeff Graham has been the leader

of the Bearcat defense with a team leading 56 tackles. Teammate Garrett Hazlett has three sacks to lead the way, while both Josh Diamond and Quillian Reed have a pair of interceptions.

Geneva welcomed back Gerard Muschette to the line-up last week at Thomas More. Muschette led Geneva in rushing before sitting out two games with an ankle injury. In his absence, Matt Curry and Matt Dean stepped up their production on the offensive side of the ball. For the season, Dean has 336 yards rushing, while Muschette has 223 yards with both players averaging close to five yards per carry. Perhaps the most dangerous offensive weapon has been senior quarterback Bobby Bondi, both with his legs and with his arm. Bondi is second on the team with 322 rushing yards. He has also completed 97-183 passes for 933 yards and four touchdowns. Bondi′s weapons also include Luke Duriancik, Brian Dvorsak and Scott Koenig, all of which have hauled in over 21 receptions.

Geneva will end its regular season with back to back home games beginning next week against undefeated Waynesburg College. After Waynesburg, the Golden Tornadoes will host Grove City on November 10th to end the season. Meanwhile, Saint Vincent will travel to Grove City next week before finishing the season at home against Thiel College.
