SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST, REGULAR SEASON

ENDS WITH OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION

Beaver Falls, PA- Geneva′s men′s soccer team has had its problems of late finding the net. With just four wins in its last nine games, the Golden Tornadoes were looking to end the regular season on a positive note. Geneva found its offensive prowess early and often against Bethany on Friday night as the Golden Tornadoes moved to 9-1 at home and 12-6 overall with a dominating 6-0 victory over the Bison.

Geneva scored four first half goals, two of which came off the foot of freshman Russ Picard. Picard opened the scoring in the 13th minute. Teammate Matt Weaver got another goal for Geneva two minutes later. Picard got his second goal of the night and seventh of the season in the 18th minute.

Geneva′s freshmen scoring parade continued with Kenton Burkhart′s fifth goal of the game and Scott Swartley′s team leading ninth goal of the season in the 59th minute. Adam Lawyer picked up the sixth and final goal of the match in the 69th minute to close the game out.

Geneva out shot Bethany 18-5 and junior goalkeeper Sam McCracken went the distance and made three saves for his seventh shut-out of the season.

The Golden Tornadoes will now await word about what is next for them in the NCCAA East Regional Tournament. Geneva will be competing against Roberts Wesleyan and Mt. Vernon Nazarene for the right to head to Kissimmee, FL for the NCCAA national tournament, which is held in mid-November.
