GENEVAFALLS TO MALONE IN TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP

Beaver Falls, PA - Less than 24 hours after Geneva′s men′s basketball team put on an offensive display in a season opener against Franciscan, the Golden Tornadoes found themselves in an offensive drought for much of the afternoon against Malone College. Facing the Pioneers in the championship game of the Tornado Tip-Off Tournament, Geneva dropped an 83-70 decision to Malone. Geneva dropped to 1-1, while Malone improved to 4-1 on the young season.

Zach Fanning hit a three-point field goal with 7:45 to play in the first half which moved Malone′s lead to ten points at 27-17. The Pioneers led by as many as 14 points at the half, but took a 43-34 lead into the locker room.

Geneva clawed back to make it a four-point game with 13:45 to play in the game when Justin Nardi hit a jump shot to make the score 52-48 Pioneers.

Malone was able to stem the tide and was never again threatened. The Pioneers were led by tournament MVP Tyler Renner, who scored a game high 21 points. Shane Humphrey, Jarrod Ferwerda and Ben Carver also scored in double figures for Malone.

Greg McDivitt, a member of the All-Tournament team scored 18 points to lead Geneva, while Bryan Hill netted 16 points on 5-11 from three-point range.

Geneva will travel to Penn State Beaver next Tuesday and will return home on Saturday to face LaRoche College at 3 pm.
