PICKING UP WHERE THEY LEFT OFF,

GENEVAWOMEN WIN OPENER

Monaca, PA - After finishing the 2006-07 season with a school record 24 victories and the first-ever trip to the national tournament, Geneva opened its new campaign with a 69-54 victory over Penn State Beaver in the first ever women′s game for the Lions.

Geneva started a bit sluggish and shot just 33% from the field in the first half and took a 27-24 lead into the break. The Golden Tornadoes settled down in the second half and were able to pull away for a 15 point victory. Renee Rawding led the way for Geneva with 27 points on 6-17 shooting, including four three-point field goals. Geneva did a lot of its damage from outside the arc as Lauren Uranker was able to knock down three long range shots to help Geneva′s cause. Allyson Clarke finished the game with 17 points and a team best eight rebounds. Uranker was the only other Geneva player in double figures with 13 points.

Geneva, which made its mark on the defensive end of the court last year, held Penn State Beaver to just 18 field goals for the game and just a 33% mark from the field. Geneva also forced 19 turnovers in the victory. PS-Beaver got a team high 15 points from Jasmine Green and 11 points from Queznay Hubbard.
