SENIORS STEP UP FOR SHORT HANDED
GENEVAIN ROAD WIN

Monaca, PA - Geneva′s leading scorer, Greg McDivitt, was forced to miss Tuesday′s game with an arm injury. McDivitt joins pre-season starter Richard Colick on the bench with injuries. Despite two of Geneva′s top scorers being sidelined, the Golden Tornadoes found a way to hold off Penn State Beaver 71-63 to move their early season record to 2-1. The Lions are still in search of their first victory after falling to 0-4.

Geneva needed its leaders to step up and fill the void of McDivitt and both Zac Northen and Ryan Burns provided that much needed spark. Burns came off the bench to lead Geneva with 17 points, including 5-10 shooting from the field and three treys. Northen added 12 points and nine rebounds in the victory. Other double figure scorers included Justin Nardi′s 14 points and Matt Blocki′s 12 points in a fill in role for McDivitt at the center position.

Geneva held a 39-34 lead at the half after shooting just 36% from the field in the first 20 minutes. It was the defense that kept the Golden Tornadoes in control as they held the Lions to 36% shooting for the game, while forcing 14 turnovers.

Penn State got a game high 23 points from Matt Franitti, who is playing his first year with the Lions after transferring from Geneva a year ago. Zach Fetchin added 15 points for Penn State Beaver in a losing cause.

Geneva will return home on Saturday to host LaRoche College for a 3 pm tip-off at Metheny Fieldhouse.
