GENEVASTARTS 6-0, SETS SCHOOL RECORD

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s women played their first game against a PAC opponent on Saturday afternoon and the result remained the same as their previous five games. Head coach Ron Galbreath and the Golden Tornadoes moved to 6-0 with a 67-53 victory over Grove City College. The win set a new school record for victories to start a season as Geneva surpassed the record of five wins that was set back in 1988. Grove City fell to 2-3 with the loss.

After Grove City scored the first two points of the game, Geneva never trailed again throughout the contest. Leading by as many as ten points in the first half, the Golden Tornadoes took a 31-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Geneva scored the first seven points of the second half to extend the lead to 38-25 on a pair of free throws from Renee Rawding. Rawding finished the game with a mark of 6-6 from the foul line, but was just 3-15 from the field. Geneva′s leading scorer coming into the game finished with 14 points. It was Allyson Clarke that picked Geneva up off the deck with 21 points and 14 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Lauren Uranker also finished in double figures with ten points despite going just 1-7 from three-point range.

Grove City cut the lead to nine at 50-41 with just under ten minutes to play, but could never again get within single digits as Geneva stretched its lead down the stretch to as many as 19 points.

Shannon Overdorff led Grove City with 13 points, while Christine Slater added 11 points and seven rebounds in a losing effort.

Geneva will get another PAC opponent next Wednesday when it hosts Washington & Jefferson at Metheny Fieldhouse for a 5:30 pm tip-off when the Golden Tornadoes will be in search of consecutive victory number seven to start the season.
