NO MISTAKES BY THE LAKETHIS NIGHT, GENEVA

FALLS TO DIVISION I CLEVELANDSTATE

Cleveland, OH - Just 24 hours after suffering one of the most heartbreaking losses in recent history, Geneva′s men′s basketball team traveled to Cleveland State for its first game against a Division I opponent in 18 years. The recipe for a long night was in place and the Golden Tornadoes were unable to stay with Cleveland State in a 107-51 loss that dropped Geneva to 3-3 on the season.

Geneva was competitive in the first ten minutes and trailed by just nine points midway through the first half. Greg McDivitt, who finished the game with ten points, picked up his second foul midway through the first half and was forced to bench at that point. By halftime, Cleveland State had stretched its lead to 49-26. In the final 20 minutes, Geneva was out scored 58-25 while Cleveland State shot 64% in the second half.

While Geneva certainly didn′t shoot the ball well and finished at 39% from the field, but it was the inability to protect the basketball that was most costly. The Golden Tornadoes turned over the ball 28 times.

Bryan Hill, who was 4-9 from three-point range, led the Golden Tornadoes with 12 points in the loss. Cleveland State had five players in double figures led by Joe Davis′ 20 points.

"It was a great experience for our guys to get the chance to play at this level," said Santarsiero. "We had a lot working against us especially with the tough loss last night, but we played an outstanding team and we continue to work hard all night."

Geneva will get back to the Division III level on Wednesday when it hosts Washington & Jefferson at Metheny Fieldhouse at 7:30 pm.
