BISON BUST, GENEVASLOW START

LEADS TO LOSS AT BETHANY

Bethany, WV - Geneva′s men′s basketball team got off to a sluggish start at Bethany on Saturday and the Bison could do no wrong as Bethany cruised past the Golden Tornadoes by the count of 96-81. The loss dropped Geneva back to 4-4, while Bethany improved to 5-3.

Geneva′s final lead of the game came at the 11:17 mark of the first half when the Golden Tornadoes took a 13-12 lead on a Matt Blocki lay-up. Bethany scored the games next 12 points and never looked back. The Bison led Geneva 45-31 at halftime and extended the lead to as many as 28 points at 70-42 with 12:06 to play in the game. To Geneva′s credit, they cut the lead back to within 15 points at the final buzzer, but still came up short for the third time in four games.

Geneva as just 3-21 from behind the three-point arc and Bryan Hill, who was among the leaders in the PAC from behind the arc, was held scoreless on just 0-2 from long range. In the second half, Geneva was 0-11 from three point range, but was 19-29 from inside the arc in the final 20 minutes. Geneva had four players in double figures led by Zac Northen′s 16 points. Mike Ross added 15 points and six rebounds off the bench, while Greg McDivitt chipped in with 14 points, 12 of which came in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Bethany, which entered the game averaging over 88 points a game, posted 96 points including four players in double figures. Brody Jackson led the Bison attack with 18 points, including a 4-7 mark from three-point range.

"We just could never get into a good offensive rhythm," said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. "Bethany did a good job keeping the ball away from our scorers and we were not able to adjust to that pressure. I was proud of the second half effort, but we are still not satisfied with the result."

Geneva will have some time before it can put this one behind them as the Golden Tornadoes have a full week off before entertaining Penn State Beaver at Metheny Fieldhouse next Saturday afternoon.
