HAPPY HOLIDAYS, GENEVAHEADS INTO
BREAK WITH VICTORY OVER PS-BEAVER
Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva head coach Jeff Santarsiero will certainly be in good spirits over the holidays as he watched his Golden Tornadoes cruise to a 104-58 victory over Penn State Beaver leading into a two-week lay-off for the Christmas holiday. Geneva moved to 5-4 on the season, while the Lions fell to 3-9. Geneva won′t be back in action until the week between Christmas and New Year′s for a two-game trip to Florida.
On Saturday afternoon, the Golden Tornadoes started quickly and never looked back. Penn State′s final lead was at 3-2 just two and a half minutes into the game. Geneva opened up 16 points lead at 30-14 on a Justin Nardi jump shot with 8:55 to play in the first half. The half ended with Geneva holding a 49-29 edge.
In the second half, Geneva was in complete control as it out scored Penn State 55-29 in the final 20 minutes. Geneva had a very balanced scoring attack led by Ryan Burns and Zac Northen, who had 13 points each. Nathan Reep added 11 points and Greg McDivitt had ten points and a team best 13 rebounds.
Matt Franitti, who transferred from Geneva last year, led the Lions with 14 points, while Tim Kubis added 13 points in the loss.
Geneva lit it up by shooting 55% from the field, including 15-26 from three-point range. Burns was a perfect 4-4 from outside the arc, while Bryan Hill added three treys to help Geneva′s cause. A total of 14 players entered the scoring sheet for the Golden Tornadoes.
Geneva will play two games in Florida to the 2007 year and will return to Metheny Fieldhouse on January 5th to host Saint Vincent College.
