meadowlark_lemon.jpgLegendary basketball showman George “Meadowlark” Lemon and other former members of the Harlem Globetrotters and the National Basketball Association will perform at Geneva College′s Metheny Fieldhouse on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007.

In an effort to go beyond normal expectations for her senior project, New Brighton high school student Danielle Kusnir chose to donate money to local charities – including Angels ‘R′ Us Fund and the Beaver Falls Turner Scholarship Fund – by organizing a high-profile basketball event. Kusnir and fellow New Brighton students coordinated the Harlem All Stars event from start to finish.

Founded in the 1920s, the predominately African-American Harlem Globetrotters not only focused on both impeccable athleticism and entertaining showmanship, but also broke down racial barriers in American sports. For over two decades Lemon was known as the “Clown Prince” of the Globetrotters, eventually being inducted into the National Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003.

The game is at Geneva College′s Metheny Fieldhouse on Dec. 15, 2007 at 6 p.m. Tickets are between $15 and $50. For more information and to order tickets, contact 724-650-1707.
