FOUL TROUBLE CAN′T SLOW DOWN GENEVA,

BEAT SAINT VINCENTBY EIGHT

Beaver Falls, PA - It was turning into head coach Ron Galbreath′s worst nightmare early in the second half for Geneva′s women′s basketball team. Leading scorers Allyson Clarke and Renee Rawding were both in serious foul trouble, but somehow the Golden Tornadoes found a way to prevail in a 53-45 victory over Saint Vincent College. The victory helped Geneva improve to 10-1, while the Bearcats fell to 3-8.

In the first two minutes of the second half, Allyson Clarke picked up her fourth foul and Renee Rawding was saddled with her third. It was also at that time that Saint Vincent took its first lead of the game. With all the momentum in the Bearcat′s corner, Geneva was able to find a way to steal back its steam.

Coach Galbreath continued to roll the dice with his leading scorers on the floor for most of the second half and never picking up another foul. Clarke finished the game as Geneva′s leading scorer with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Rawding scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half, including a huge three-point field goal with eight minutes remaining to give Geneva a lead it would never relinquish. Michawn Rich had five points, but added 11 rebounds and seven assists to give Geneva a lift in 39 minutes of play.

Freshman Christine Carugati also hit a pair of three-point field goals in the second half comeback to give Geneva a lift. Carugati finished with eight points, while her freshman counterpart Megan Hartwig had six points and six assists.

Geneva will host Chatham College on Wednesday night before hitting a stretch of six out of the next seven games on the road.
