HILL′S "THREE FOR ALL" LEADS GENEVA
PAST SAINT VINCENT
Beaver Falls, PA - Bryan Hill made eight three point field goals and posted a career high 31 points, but it was his two free throws in overtime that sealed a 92-88 victory for Geneva over Saint Vincent. The Golden Tornadoes improved to 7-5, while Saint Vincent fell to 8-3. While Hill was the main attraction on Saturday afternoon, senior forward Greg McDivitt played a strong supporting role with 21 points, including his 1000th career point on his final field goal in overtime. McDivitt became the 33rd player in school history to reach the 1000 plateau.
"Bryan and Greg really kept us in the game in the first half," said Santarsiero. "The rest of our guys really picked things up the rest of the way." Despite Hill and McDivitt′s efforts in the first 20 minutes, it was Saint Vincent that took a 44-38 lead into the locker room. Hill knocked in a trey on Geneva′s first possession of the second half to cut the lead to three and moments later the Golden Tornadoes took a 46-44 lead on another Hill trey with 17:34 to play in the second half. "He was really special tonight, said Santarsiero. "When they move the three-point line back next year, it won′t affect Bryan Hill. I think all but one of his three′s would have been behind the new line."
Geneva took an 83-78 lead on a McDivitt jump shot with 59 seconds remaining in regulation. The Bearcats clawed back into the game from the foul line with five free throws down the stretch, including one from Ian McCullough with nine seconds remaining in regulation. Mike Ross missed an off-balanced shot at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
Saint Vincent scored the first four points of the extra session, but the Golden Tornadoes scored the final eight points of overtime to take the victory. "Our guys really stepped up in overtime. We had a chance to fold, but kept on working hard and fortunately it paid off."
Geneva will travel to Hiram College on Wednesday that starts a stretch of seven of the next eight games on the road. Geneva′s next home game will be against Thiel College on January 19th.
