DEFENSIVE DOZEN, GENEVAMOVES TO 12-1 WITH

VICTORY AT WAYNESBURG

Waynesburg, PA - Geneva′s women continued their magical season with a 60-47 victory over Waynesburg University on Saturday night. The defense once again came alive as it held the Yellow Jackets to just nine second half field goals, while forcing 22 turnovers in leading the Golden Tornadoes to a 12-1 record. Meanwhile, Waynesburg dropped its twelfth straight game and fell to 1-12 on the season.

Geneva started quickly with the first seven points of the game, but was never able to completely put Waynesburg away. In fact, the Yellow Jackets got back to within six points midway through the second half, but Geneva would not be denied its 12th victory. Geneva shot just 35% from the field in the second half and managed just six field goals in the final 20 minutes, but won the game from the foul line for the second straight time. In Geneva′s last victory against Chatham, it made just five second half field goals. On Saturday night, Geneva was 20-26 from the foul line in the second half and finished with 24 free throws for the night, while Waynesburg converted just nine.

Renee Rawding led the way with 21 points, including 4-6 from three-point range and 7-9 from the foul line. Allyson Clarke, who was forced out of the game with under four minutes to play with an ankle injury, posted 14 points and seven rebounds. Elisha Jones led Waynesburg with 17 points.

Geneva will face its toughest challenge to date on Wednesday night when it travels to Kentucky to face fifth ranked and undefeated Thomas More College. The Golden Tornadoes will return home next Saturday to host Thiel College in the only remaining home game in January.
