GENEVATAMES CATS, SNEAKS PAST THIEL

Beaver Falls, PA - Throughout the season, Geneva′s men′s basketball team has seen leads slip through its fingertips down the stretch. On Saturday night, the Golden Tornadoes managed to hold off the charging Thiel Tomcats in a 73-68 victory at Metheny Field house. Geneva improved to 9-7, while Thiel fell to 6-8 on the campaign.

Geneva seemingly had things in control throughout the second half and extended its lead to as many as 12 points at 57-45 with 8:16 remaining. Much like several endings throughout the season, the Golden Tornadoes watched their opponents get back into the game as the Tomcats cut the lead to just three points when Nick Sefcsik canned a three point field goal with 16 seconds remaining. Justin Nardi sealed the victory with a pair of free throws in the final seconds as Geneva held on for a hard fought victory.

Greg McDivitt led the Geneva attack with 21 points, while Mike Ross added 12 points as the only other Golden Tornado with double figures. Devon Adams scored 21 points to lead Thiel.

Playing without leading long range shooter Bryan Hill, who pulled a groin muscle on Wednesday, Geneva got a pair of threes from both Ross and Ryan Burns to fill the void. As a team, the Golden Tornadoes knocked down six three-pointers.

The Golden Tornadoes will play three straight road games beginning with games at Westminster on Wednesday and Grove City next Saturday as Geneva enters rivalry week. Geneva returns to Metheny Field house on February 2nd to host Bethany College.
