INDOOR TRACK OUT OF THE STARTING BLOCKS

WITH BALDWIN-WALLACE MEET

Cleveland, OH - Geneva′s newest varsity programs competed in their first meet on Friday evening. The Golden Tornadoes′ men′s and women′s indoor track teams traveled to Baldwin-Wallace College for its Mid-January Meet, which featured several high profiled programs. The meet was not scored for overall team awards, but Geneva did post some impressive individual efforts.

Heading the list of accomplishments was junior Luke Duriancik. Duriancik competed in both the 55-meter event and the 500-meter event. In his first race, Duriancik cut .2 seconds off his previous best time. He was even more impressive in a 500-meter race that he wasn′t even sure he wanted to compete in when the day started. Duriancik finished sixth overall and turned in a final heat time of 1:12.69, which was good enough for the fourth best time in school history.

Andrew Foxenberg, who has returned for one final year of eligibility in the indoor season, turned in a couple quality performances. Foxenberg finished ninth in the one-mile event and came up just four seconds shy of qualifying for the indoor nationals in the 3000 meter race with a time of 9:21.48. Corey Fraction was impressive in his first collegiate meet with solid performances in both the 55-meter dash (9th) and the 200-meter dash (15th).

In women′s action, Tiffany Bear posted a solid fifth place finish in the shot put with a distance of 33-04. She also put up a 13th place finish in the 55-meter event. Head coach Bret Otte always preaches individual improvement as a major goal for each athlete. With that in mind, he was most pleased with Carolyn Bolton, who jumped a full foot further in the long jump event than she did at this same meet one year ago.

"It was a long night, but a successful one," said Otte. "We have shown some great improvements from last year and that is a credit to the hard work that each individual has put in during the off-season. It was a good way to start our new season and our new program."
