CLARKE ON THE MARK, DOUBLE-DOUBLE TROUBLE
FOR WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON
Washington, PA - Allyson Clarke continued to prove herself as one of the finest players in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference on Wednesday night. The senior forward lifted Geneva past Washington & Jefferson by the score of 64-60. Coming back from an upset loss against Grove City on Saturday, Geneva moved to 15-3 on the season by completing a season sweep against W & J.
Clarke led the Geneva charge with her 14th double-double of the season with 28 points and 12 rebounds. Clarke was 9-18 from the field and 9-10 from the foul line as she helped hold off a determined W & J team. In a game that Geneva never trailed, it certainly was forced to hold on for dear life down the stretch.
The Golden Tornadoes seemingly had things well in control when they took a 35-24 lead into the halftime locker room. W & J responded by scoring the first ten points of the second half to cut the lead to one. The President′s managed to tie the score at 44-44, but could never grab the lead. Clarke′s jump shot with 9:39 to play gave Geneva a lead it would never relinquish. Leading 53-51 with 4:12 to play, Geneva scored the next six points capped off by a pair of Clarke free throws.
Renee Rawding scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half, including two free throws with just less than four seconds to play to put the game away. Held without a field goal in the first half, Rawding canned three treys in the second half to lift the Golden Tornadoes. Michawn Rich played another key supporting role with nine points and 11 rebounds.
Kennan Killeen led W & J with 16 points, all of which came in the second half. Leading scorer Maggie Gibson was held to four points, including only one field goal. Gibson did pull down a game high 14 rebounds.
Geneva will finally return home after four straight on the road this Saturday. The Golden Tornadoes will host Bethany College on Saturday before heading back on the road for games at Saint Vincent and Chatham next week.
