In order to prepare students for the world outside of Geneva′s halls and classrooms, the Career Development center is hosting a Backpack to Briefcase event throughout the spring semester. The event will focus on specific issues faced by college graduates, including everything from the job search process, to graduate school applications, to budgeting and finances.

Director of Career Development Rob Rostoni, states that the purpose of the Backpack to Briefcase event is to equip students with skills relevant to the job search, as well as bring attention to the transition from college to career.

The event begins with a workshop exploring E-portfolio, an electronic method of building and sending portfolios displaying relevant work and accomplishments. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 5 and Thursday, Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Career Development Center. It will introduce new users to the program, and provide them with the opportunity to create their own electronic portfolio. Career Development will also provide participants in the workshop with a free CD of their portfolio to give to future employers.

Backpack to Briefcase continues throughout February, March, and April with seminars covering topics of job searches, resume and cover letter techniques, interviewing, etiquette dining, internships, budget and finances, and post-graduation advice. For a more complete list of dates and times, check out the Career Development events listing.
