TORNADO RALLY, GENEVA BATTLES BACK FROM
10-POINT DEFICIT FOR 18th VICTORY
Pittsburgh, PA - It was anything but easy for Geneva′s women′s basketball team on Saturday afternoon, but like much of the season, the Golden Tornadoes found a way to win. Geneva posted a 62-53 victory over Chatham College on Saturday to move to 18-3 on the season. Chatham fell to 8-12 on the season.
Geneva fell behind by nine points at the half and trailed the Cougars 36-26 with just over 14 minutes left in regulation. The Golden Tornadoes scored 15 of the next 19 points to grab a lead it would never relinquish. It took Geneva just under seven minutes to pull off its run. After Chatham tied the game twice more down the stretch, the Golden Tornadoes finished the game on a 15-4 run to put it away for the victory.
Allyson Clarke once again led the Geneva offensive charge with a game high 24 points. Renee Rawding continued her great work at the foul line as the junior knocked in all ten free throw attempts and finished the game with 14 points.
Geneva picked up its fourth consecutive victory after a setback to Grove City College back on January 26th. The Golden Tornadoes again won with their defense as they held another opponent under 60 points. Geneva has not allowed any opponents to reach 70 this year and only twice allowed as many as 68 points in a game.
The Golden Tornadoes will look to extend their winning streak to five games on Wednesday night when they host Waynesburg University, a team that had just one victory on the season heading into Saturday. The Golden Tornadoes will close out the regular season with three out of four games at home. Following Waynesburg, Geneva will look toward another showdown with 5th ranked and undefeated Thomas More College on Saturday afternoon at 2 pm. Thomas More improved to 21-0 on Saturday with a 42-point victory over Grove City College.
