SUPPORT PLAYERS TAKE TOP BILLING IN
VICTORY OVER WAYNESBURG
Beaver Falls, PA - For the first 21 games of the 2007-08 season, Geneva′s women′s basketball team has relied on Allyson Clarke and Renee Rawding to provide the bulk of its offense. On Wednesday night, the Golden Tornadoes and head coach Ron Galbreath saw a pair of role players step into the spotlight and provide the spark to a 60-41 victory over Waynesburg University. Geneva′s women won for the fifth straight game and improved to 19-3 on the season. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets lost for the 21st straight game and fell to 1-21 on the season.
With Renee Rawding out of the line-up with a foot injury and Allyson Clarke in early foul trouble, Geneva got solid contributions from Megan Hartwig and Rachel Barry. Hartwig, who made her first collegiate start, scored 13 points and pulled down five rebounds. Barry matched Hartwig′s output with 13 points, including 3-4 from three-point range.
Allyson Clarke had just four points and halftime but heated up in the second half. Clarke finished with her 17th double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Michawn Rich pitched in with seven points, while Valerie Hamilton added six points off the bench.
Geneva held Waynesburg to just 13 field goals and a 31% shooting mark from the field for the game. The Yellow Jackets got 12 points from Elisha Jones and Marquis Demniak to lead the scoring.
Geneva′s victory sets up the long awaited rematch between the Golden Tornadoes and undefeated Thomas More College. The Saints improved to 22-0 with a victory at Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday night. The Golden Tornadoes host Thomas More on Saturday afternoon at 2 pm.
