20-20 Vision, GenevaSees Its Way Clearly Into Record Books

With Back to Back 20-Win Seasons

Greenville, PA - More history was made for the Geneva women′s basketball team on Wednesday night. With a 62-47 victory over Thiel College, the Golden Tornadoes moved to 20-4 on the season, which marks the first time in school history that the women′s program has achieved back to back 20-win season. Geneva improved to 20-4 with the victory, while Thiel dropped to 7-16.

Geneva got off to a sluggish start in the first half as Thiel opened the game with the first six points. The Golden Tornadoes quickly crept back into the game and took a 28-22 lead into the half after Bridget Beachy knocked down a three-point field goal as the halftime buzzer sounded.

The Golden Tornadoes started the second half much like the first and allowed the Tomcats to score the first seven points to take a brief 29-28 lead. On the strength of Renee Rawding′s team leading 22 points and Allyson Clarke′s 19th double-double of the season, Geneva came back to out score Thiel 34-25 in the final 20 minutes. Clarke finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds, including a perfect 7-7 from the foul line. Playing without junior guard Michawn Rich, the Golden Tornadoes got a solid contribution from Christine Carugati. The freshman from Beaver High School made three steals that led to six points in the second half. Carugati finished the game with eight points off the bench to help lend support to Geneva′s comeback victory.

Thiel got 14 points and 18 rebounds from Jasmin Jones as the Tomcats out rebounded Geneva by the count of 51-38, including 25 offensive rebounds.

Geneva′s second leading defensive unit in the PAC, forced 22 turnovers and held Thiel to just 26% shooting from the field for the game.

The Golden Tornadoes will close out the regular season on Saturday evening when they welcome Westminster College to Metheny Fieldhouse at 5:30 pm.
