FINALE FIZZLES, GENEVADROPS REGULAR
SEASON CAPPER TO
WESTMINSTER

Beaver Falls, PA - Early in the second half it looked like Geneva′s women′s basketball team was getting ready to get blown out of its own gym against Westminster College. However, on senior night and in the regular season finale, the Golden Tornadoes rallied back from 17 points down only to drop a 66-61 decision to the Titans. The loss dropped Geneva to 20-5 on the season, while Westminster improved to 15-10 on the campaign.

Westminster took a 38-23 lead into the halftime break and led by as many as 17 points early in the second half. Thanks to the heroics of Allyson Clarke and Christine Carugati, Geneva battled back to within one point in the final minutes of the game. Carugati knocked down three treys in the second half, including one with just 24 seconds remaining to cut Westminster′s lead to 60-59. After Emilee Ackerman split a pair of free throws, Geneva had a chance to tie the game, but Allyson Clarke′s attempt was partially blocked and the Titans held on the for the victory. Ackerman was 19-24 from the foul line and finished the game with 37 points. For Geneva, Clarke had 24 points and 15 rebounds for her 20th double-double of the season. Carugati finished the game with 13 points, while Rawding added 11 points in the loss.

Geneva managed just six field goals in the first half and shot just 25% from the field in the first 20 minutes. Geneva′s came back strong in the second stanza, but was unable to make the difference in the contest.

Geneva will now look ahead to the NCCAA post-season, but the loss on Saturday night may have cost the Golden Tornadoes their home court advantage. The Golden Tornadoes will await their opponent, date and time for the Eastern Regional Tournament in March.
