Aida at the Bendum

Thanks to the Alumni Relations Office of Geneva College, a classic Italian opera will come to life for dozens of Beaver County residents this spring. The Alumni Relations Office invites the community to a dinner and opera trip the evening of Tuesday, April 1, 2008. After dinner on Geneva′s campus, attendees will take a luxury coach to the Benedum Theater in Pittsburgh where they will watch a performance of the opera “Aida.” Reservations are being accepted now and participation is limited.

Geneva College music professor Dr. Robert M. Copeland will give a presentation about “Aida” before the show. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet with the actors after the performance for light refreshments.

“Aida” is the story of the enslaved Ethiopian princess Aida, who falls in love with one of her Egyptian captors. The opera, sung in Italian with English subtitles displayed on a screen, focuses on the couple′s choice between loyalty to their countries or to their romantic love.

“This is a great opportunity for Geneva and the community to get together and celebrate the gifts of music and story,” says Ginny Caldwell, director of alumni relations at Geneva. “It will also be wonderful to meet mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe, a friend of Geneva.”

Tickets for the show cost $130, and dinner and travel expenses are an additional $35. To reserve seats, contact the Geneva office of Special Events at 724-847-6525 or by e-mail at events@geneva.edu.
