FLORIDA FUNK, SOFTBALL LOSING STREAK STRETCHES TO FIVE

Kissimmee, FL - What started out as a week of promise has quickly turned into one of frustration in a matter of days. Geneva′s softball team dropped two more games at the Rebel Spring Games on Wednesday and saw its losing streak reach five games. After an opening season victory on Monday, the Golden Tornadoes have now lost five straight.

In game one on Wednesday, starting pitcher Ashley Archer took the loss one day after one of her finest pitching performances of her career. Archer′s game on Wednesday will be one that she would like to soon forget. The junior surrendered ten hits and nine runs in a 9-1 loss to Augustana College, IL. Geneva′s offense continued to struggle with just two hits in the loss. Michawn Rich knocked in the lone run with a first inning RBI double.

Getting hits was not the problem for Geneva in the night cap, but getting hits at the right time became the issue. The Golden Tornadoes picked up seven hits in a 2-0 loss to Muhlenberg, but finished the game 0-11 with runners in scoring position. Freshman Rebekah Wahl walked the first two batters of the game, both of which scored for the only runs of the game. Wahl allowed just four hits, but picked up the hard luck loss.

Geneva will get a much needed day off on Thursday before closing out its Florida trip with doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday. The Golden Tornadoes will take their 1-5 record into the final two days of the trip.
