A & W DELIGHT, PITCHING COMBO PUTS END TO SLIDE

Kissimmee, FL - Geneva′s softball team has been getting good pitching throughout the first week of the season. On Friday, the Golden Tornadoes got back to back solid outings from Rebekah Wahl and Ashley Archer to help put an end to Geneva′s five-game losing streak. Geneva defeated Widener University 3-1 in game one and then held off Saint Francis, IL by the count of 3-0 to take a pair of games at the Rebel Spring Games.

Rebekah Wahl picked up her first collegiate victory by going six strong innings and allowing just four hits. Wahl walked one and struck out one in the best outing of her young career. Amy Pearce knocked in a pair of runs, including her first home run of the season. Michawn Rich continued her hot start with two more hits and a sacrifice fly to account for Geneva′s third run.

Ashley Archer pitched a scoreless seventh inning against Widener to pick up her first save of the year. She then pitched seven scoreless innings in the night cap to grab her second victory of the season. Archer allowed just three hits and struck out seven in the victory. All of Geneva′s offense came in a three run third inning. Amy Pearce knocked in the first run with an RBI single, which was followed by run scoring hits off the bats of Kim Slater and Lindsay Piette.

Geneva moved to 3-5 on its Florida swing and will close out the trip with two more games on Saturday. The Golden Tornadoes will look to get back to the .500 mark before heading back to Beaver Falls on Monday.
