FOSS THE BOSS, SENIOR HURLS GENEVA TO THIRD STRAIGHT WIN
Ft. Pierce, FL - Geneva′s baseball team opened its week by dropping its first three games. In the last two days, the Golden Tornadoes have evened their record with three wins on the strength of three outstanding pitching performances. On Saturday, senior Dave Foss hurled eight shut-out innings and struck out nine to lead Geneva to a 1-0 victory over Northwestern, MN. Justin Montgomery picked up his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth to help Geneva move to 3-3 on the season.
On Friday, Andy Hiskey picked up a pair of hits and an RBI in one of Geneva′s two victories over Eastern. On Saturday, Hiskey′s sixth inning base hit accounted for the only run Geneva would need in the victory.
Tadd Eyster was finally contained on Saturday after getting three more hits on Friday. Eyster has led Geneva′s offense this week with a batting average well over the .500 mark in the first six games of the season.
Geneva′s pitching staff has now put together back to back shut-out victories. Foss′ effort followed a one-hit complete game shut-out from Derek Sumner on Friday.
The Golden Tornadoes will conclude their Florida trip with a pair of games on Monday morning before returning to Beaver Falls.
