30-RUN BARRAGE IN HILBERT SWEEP

Beaver Falls, PA - To say Geneva′s baseball team was happy to be home, may be a slight understatement. Playing in Beaver Falls for the first time in 2008, the Golden Tornadoes extended their winning streak to seven games with a pair of lopsided victories over Hilbert College. Geneva defeated Hilbert by the scores of 17-3 and 13-4 to move its overall record to 7-3, including victories in each of the last seven games.

Geneva took advantage of some early wildness by Hilbert as the Golden Tornadoes posted nine first inning runs in the first game on the strength of six walks and two hit batsmen. Geneva posted five runs in the second inning with five hits. Tadd Eyster continued his early season offensive prowess with three of Geneva′s 14 hits in the game. Joe Jurinko also had three hits, while Andy Lubich, Andy Hiskey and Steve Bowser each had a pair of knocks. Dave Foss went the distance for his second victory of the season. He allowed three unearned runs and struck out 11 in the victory.

Geneva got off to another sizzling start in game two with an eight run first and four more tallies in the second innings. The Golden Tornadoes had 13 hits in the night cap, including three more off the bat of Eyster. Lubich, Phil Shallenberger and Dylan Viehdorfer each chipped in with a pair of hits. Derek Sumner picked up his second victory of the season with a complete game, ten strikeout effort for Geneva.

The Golden Tornadoes are scheduled to host Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday and Clarion on Saturday in non-conference action.
