WORTH THE WAIT, GENEVAFINALLY GETS BACK ON THE FIELD AND CRUISES PAST PS-GREATER ALLEGHENY

McKeesport, PA - It had been 18 days since Geneva′s softball team played its last game. After playing ten games in Florida, the northern weather had forced three consecutive postponements until Geneva could finally get back on the field on Tuesday. The wait turned out to be worthwhile as the Golden Tornadoes exploded for a pair of victories over Penn State-Greater Allegheny by the scores of 19-4 and 14-1. The sweep improved Geneva′s record back to the .500 mark at 6-6 on the young season.

Junior Amy Pearce led the offensive charge with a pair of homers and seven RBI′s in the first game and another three-run shot in the night cap. Geneva pounded out 14 hits in game one, including two each from Pearce and Michawn Rich. Stephanie Wagle pitched four innings and picked up her first victory of the season. Wagle allowed four hits in her outing, while Ashley Archer pitched the final two frames and struck out four.

Pearce had a pair of three run homers in the first two innings and started in similar fashion in game two with another three run shot in the first inning. Geneva posted a five-spot in the second inning highlighted by back-to-back RBI singles from Kim Slater and Adriane Blake. Kelsey Evans chipped in with a two-run single to cap off the rally. Archer went the distance for the victory. She allowed just two hits and struck out seven for her third win of the season.

Geneva will travel to Penn State Beaver on Thursday before opening PAC play on Saturday against Grove City. A game that was originally scheduled for Beaver Falls, Geneva will travel to Grove City as completions are made on Geneva′s new home field.
