Ron GalbreathC. Ronald Galbreath, head coach of the women′s basketball team at Geneva College, recently suffered a stroke, causing him to be temporarily sidelined from his basketball duties. Doctors and family members report that he is recuperating well.

“It′s been wonderful to see Ron′s excellent rehabilitation, which is a result of his faith in God and his can-do attitude,” noted a family member. “The support that he has received from his team, the Geneva community and so many others has been wonderful. Ron and the entire family appreciate the prayers, cards and thoughtfulness.”

Coach Galbreath has spent a total of 36 years on the bench as a head coach. Prior to taking over Geneva′s program six years ago, Galbreath spent the bulk of his time as the head coach for the Westminster College men′s program. Galbreath guided the Titans to six regular season titles and three trips to the NAIA Division I national tournament. In all, 18 of his teams qualified for post-season play with 11 of those teams reaching the finals.

Galbreath eclipsed the 600 victory plateau in the spring of 2007 as he guided the Golden Tornadoes′ women′s program to its first trip to the NAIA national tournament. In that same season, Geneva finished the campaign with an overall record of 24-5, which marked the highest single season win total in school history. Geneva recently finished its second consecutive 20-win season, which was also a first for Geneva′s women′s basketball. In 36 years of coaching, Galbreath has compiled an overall coaching mark of 633-305.
