BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - Instead of hitting the beaches or heading for the comforts of home this Spring break, a number of Geneva students will be spending the week helping those in need. Eight groups, each led by a faculty or staff advisor and student leader, will set out March 1 for Mendenhall, Miss.; Bayou La Batre, Ala.; Anchorage, Ala; Aliquippa, Pa.; New Orleans, La.; Charleston, S.C.; Horquestas, Costa Rica; and San Luis in Rio Colorado, Mexico.

Students will bring both physical and spiritual aid to these communities in a variety of practical ways: repairing damage from floods and other natural disasters; conducting Vacation Bible School programs for kids; doing construction, painting and cleaning work; and distributing clothes and other supplies to needy families. Sometimes, though, the best way students can serve is by offering comfort, prayer, or simply a listening ear.

"Our main goal, wherever we go, is to glorify God through serving the local people and developing relationships with them," said Wendy Shidemantle, Assistant Professor of Language Studies and advisor to the Costa Rica trip. "And relationships go both ways - the people we′re going to serve encourage us just as much as we encourage them."
