NO PLACELIKE HOME, GENEVAOPENS NEW FIELD
WITH DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s softball team played its first true home game in ten years on Monday afternoon. For the first time since 1998, the Golden Tornadoes hosted a softball game on their own campus. The home opener was a successful one as Geneva picked up a pair of victories over Chatham College by the scores of 8-0 and 10-1. Geneva extended its win streak to four games and moved to 13-9 on the season.

Ashley Archer pitched a five-inning complete game shut-out in game one. Archer allowed just one hit and struck out four in picking up her eighth victory of the season. Archer also helped her own cause with a pair of hits and five RBI′s. She knocked in two with a double as part of a five run third inning for the Golden Tornadoes and then drove in three with a bases clearing double in the fourth. Amy Pearce launched her eighth homer of the season leaving her just one shy of the single season record for home runs, a mark she tied in 2007.

In game two, Rebekah Wahl and Stephanie Wagle combined for the victory and allowed just one run to Chatham over seven innings. Wahl pitched five scoreless innings before Wagle finished the game throwing innings six and seven. Wahl registered her fourth victory of the season and allowed just two hits in her five innings and struck out four batters.

Adriane Blake led the offensive attack in the night cap by going 4-4, including a two-run single in the first to give Geneva an early lead. Bridget Beachy had three hits, while Jackie Anthony, Adrienne Hays and Kelsey Evans had two hits each in Geneva′s 16 hit attack.

The Golden Tornadoes will play their second straight home doubleheader on Tuesday when they welcome Westminster College at 4 pm in another Presidents′ Athletic Conference match-up.
