LONG DAY ENDS IN DISAPPOINTMENT WITH

LOSSES AT THOMAS MORE

Crestview Hills, KY - With the fear of a rainout, Geneva′s baseball team opted to make its trip to Thomas More in Kentucky a one-day adventure. The Golden Tornadoes boarded a bus at 6 am and took off on the 5-hour trek to Kentucky only to return home with a pair of losses by the scores of 3-2 and 10-1. Geneva dropped its overall record to 11-8, including the last four to PAC opponents.

Geneva′s Mike Baer pitched an outstanding first game for the Golden Tornadoes. Baer went 8+ innings and suffered a hard luck loss. In eight innings of work, he scattered seven hits and struck out four. He gave way to Dave Foss in the ninth, but the Saints came away with a game winning sacrifice fly to take game one. Geneva trailed 2-0 heading into the top of the ninth when Joel Dille laced a two-run double to tie the score. Dille was the only Geneva player to register two hits in game one.

The night cap did not provide any late game heroics as Thomas More built a 6-0 lead into the fifth, which chased Geneva starter Phil Shallenberger. Geneva′s only offensive highlight in game two came when Joe Jurinko launched a solo homer in the fifth inning, but it was not nearly enough to overcome the bats of Thomas More.

Geneva will return home on Saturday afternoon to host Westminster College in another PAC doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm.
