GENEVAGAINS ROADSPLITWITH W & J, FRESHMAN

WAHL WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT

Washington, PA - Geneva′s softball team saw its six-game winning streak come to an end with a doubleheader split at Washington & Jefferson on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Tornadoes dropped game by the score of 2-1, but rebounded for a 6-3 victory in game two. The split moved Geneva′s overall record to 16-10, including an 8-4 mark against PAC opponents in 2008.

Game one was dominated by pitching as runs were at a premium. Both pitchers took shut-outs into the fourth, but it was Geneva which struck first. Amy Pearce laced an RBI double off the right field fence to score Michawn Rich for Geneva′s only run of the game. The President′s responded with a solo homer from Hanna Schulz in the bottom of the inning. Washington & Jefferson got the game winner on an infield single in the bottom of the fifth. Ashley Archer was Geneva′s hard luck loser as she got just three hits of support from Geneva′s offense. Archer went six innings and allowed seven hits. She struck out two and did not walk a batter.

Game two featured a bit more offense, but it was Geneva′s Rebekah Wahl who picked up her fourth straight victory and sixth of the season in the circle. She scattered ten hits and gave up just one earned run in seven innings of work. Wahl did not walk a batter and struck out four in the win. Trailing 2-0 in the second inning, Geneva posted three runs to take the lead. The rally was capped by a two-run triple off the bat of Kim Slater. After W & J tied the score in fourth, Geneva posted three more runs in the fifth. Amy Pearce had a run scoring single, followed by a Slater RBI single and a wild pitch that scored Anjelica Marsh.

Geneva will return home on Monday to host Grove City before hitting the road against Carlow University on Tuesday. The Golden Tornadoes will host the NCCAA Eastern Regional tournament on Friday and Saturday with the winner earning a trip to the nationals in West Palm Beach, Fl at the end of the month.
