PITCHING PROWESS, ARCHER ANDWAHL COMBINE TO

SHUTDOWNGROVECITY

Beaver Falls, PA - It′s all about pitching for Geneva′s softball team of late. The combination of Ashley Archer and Rebekah Wahl has been nothing short of sensational in the last two weeks. Archer has won five of six and Wahl has won five straight decisions. On Monday, Geneva remained perfect on its home field with identical 5-1 victories in a pair of decisions over Grove City in a PAC doubleheader. Geneva moved to 18-10 for the season, including victories in nine of its last ten games.

Geneva opened the scoring in game one with three runs in the bottom of the first. Adriane Blake opened the inning with a triple and scored on a bunt base hit from Ashley Archer. Amy Pearce came through with an RBI double and Kim Slater contributed with a squeeze bunt that scored Pearce. The Golden Tornadoes extended their lead with a pair of runs in the fourth on a two-run home run from Michawn Rich, which was her third homer of the season. Ashley Archer picked up her 10th victory of the season with a complete effort. She allowed just three hits and struck out four in the win. Adriane Blake and Amy Pearce each had three hits to lead Geneva′s 11 hit attack.

Game two started exactly like game one as the Golden Tornadoes posted three runs in the first inning. After two outs, Geneva strung together five straight hits, including a two-run double off the bat of Lynday Piette. Single runs in the third and fourth inning extended the lead to 5-0 before Grove City posted its only run in the bottom of the fourth. Rebekah Wahl won for the fifth straight time with another complete game effort. She allowed five hits and struck out three in the night cap. Amy Pearce capped off her six-hit day with another three hit effort in game two. Adriane Blake, Michawn Rich and Kim Slater each had two hits in game two.

Geneva will travel to Carlow on Tuesday to battle the Celtics before returning home on Friday and Saturday to host the NCCAA Eastern Regional tournament against Mt. Vernon Nazarene and Malone.
