NAIA REUNION, GENEVATAKES TWO FROM
CARLOW TO REACH 20-
WINMARK

Pittsburgh, PA - For the first 28 games of the 2008 season, Geneva′s softball team had been playing primarily members of NCAA Division III. All that changed on Tuesday when the Golden Tornadoes renewed their acquaintances with an old friend from the NAIA and American Mideast Conference. Geneva took a pair of games from Carlow University by the scores of 8-3 and 5-2 to reach the 20-win plateau for the fifth consecutive season. Geneva, which has won 11 of its last 12 games, improved to 20-10 on the season, including victories in five straight games.

Geneva opened the scoring in game one when Amy Pearce knocked in Ashley Archer with an RBI single. Geneva extended its lead in the fourth inning when it started playing long ball. Pearce led off the inning with her 11th home run of the season and two batters later Lyndsay Piette launched her first home run of the season over the right centerfield fence. Adriane Blake sealed the four run rally with a two-run double that scored Kim Slater and Jackie Anthony. Carlow clawed back with three runs in the sixth before Geneva extended its lead when Piette plated two with a base hit in the seventh.

Ashley Archer won for the 11th time with a complete game victory. She allowed just one earned run on five hits, all of which came in the seventh. Archer retired the first 15 batters of the game before running into trouble in the sixth. She struck out seven in the victory. Amy Pearce collected three hits for the third straight game, while Lyndsay Piette and Kim Slater picked up two hits each.

Rebekah Wahl picked up her eighth victory of the season and sixth straight with a four-hit complete game victory in the night cap. Wahl did not allow an earned run and struck out a season high eight batters in the win. Geneva opened the scoring with a run in the third inning on a Michawn Rich RBI single. The Golden Tornadoes extended their lead with four runs in the sixth. The rally was capped by a bases loaded double that plated three runs.

Geneva will host Mt. Vernon Nazarene and Malone on Friday and Saturday for the NCCAA Eastern Regional Tournament. The winner of the regional will advance to the national tournament in West Palm Beach, Fl next week.
