SALVAGED SPLIT, GENEVARALLIES TO GAIN

SPLITAT POINTPARK

Pittsburgh, PA - Geneva′s softball team got back to work Monday night just two days after coming up short in the NCCAA Eastern Regional tournament. The loss over the weekend may have had some lingering affects as the Golden Tornadoes struggled to gain a split against Point Park. The Pioneers took game one 10-3 before Geneva rallied for a 9-7 victory in the night cap. The two-game split moved Geneva′s overall record to 23-13.

Point Park opened the scoring with a run in the second before Jackie Anthony scored on an Ashley Archer bunt to tie the game in the third. The Pioneers regained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning. In the fourth, Lyndsay Piette launched her second home run of the season, a two-run shot that brought Geneva back to within a run. Point Park put the game away with four runs in the fifth and two more tallies in the sixth. Jackie Anthony had three of Geneva′s six hits. Ashley Archer took the loss in working 4+ innings and allowing four earned runs.

Geneva scored two runs in the first inning of game two on an RBI single from Michawn Rich and a base hit from Lyndsay Piette. Geneva scored two more runs in the second and a single run in the third. Leading 5-3 into the fifth inning, Point Park put up three runs to grab a 6-5 lead. In a see-saw battle, Geneva got the lead back when Rich tripled home a run and then scored on an Amy Pearce base hit. Geneva picked up much needed insurance in the seventh on a two-run double from Jackie Anthony. Rebekah Wahl pitched five innings to earn her 11th victory of the season. She allowed just one earned run in her outing and struck out five batters. Archer closed down the game for her third save of the season by getting the final six outs and striking out a pair of batters in the process.

Jackie Anthony completed her seven hit day with four more base knocks in the night cap. Michawn Rich added a single, double and triple, while Leanne Abate played a big role in the offensive explosion with four hits of her own.

Geneva will be back on its home field on Tuesday to host Waynesburg University in a PAC doubleheader beginning at 3 pm.
