GENEVA TAKES TWO IN HOME FIELD FINALE

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s softball team closed out their final home games in style with two wins over PAC opponent, Waynesburg University. In two games, the Golden Tornadoes gave up only six hits, striking out 16 batters on their way to 4-1 and 7-2 victories. With the two wins, Geneva currently sits at a 25-13 mark on the season.

In the first game, Rebekah Wahl stepped into the circle and threw a complete game, retiring eight batters on strikes along the way. Geneva′s offense started off with Jackie Anthony and Lyndsay Piette scoring on a pair of Yellowjacket errors. Two more would score in the bottom of the fifth after a combination of Waynsburg errors and the only Geneva RBI of the game by Lindsay Piette. Waynsburg would score their only run in the top of the seventh.

Geneva started the second game off in similar fashion. Adriane Blake would send home Anthony with an RBI triple before scoring herself to take a two run first inning lead. Geneva would tally three more runs in the third, thanks to RBIs by Michawn Rich, Amy Pearce and Leanne Abate. Waynsburg fired back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth after two Geneva errors. Geneva′s offense would not slow down providing another run in both the fourth and sixth inning to put the game out of reach. Ashley Archer pitched a complete game striking out eight batters of her own and allowing only two hits.

Geneva′s offense in the second game was paced by Michawn Rich, who had an RBI in three consecutive at bats. Jackie Anthony and Adriane Blake pitched in with four hits and two RBIs respectively.

These two wins wrap up the home games on a brand new Golden Tornadoes field.

Geneva boasted a 9-2 record at home this season, including a clean sweep of PAC opponents.

Geneva has played eight games over the past five days going 5-3 in that stretch. Geneva will have a much needed break before they are back on the road in a make-up contest at Franciscan University on April 30th. The Golden Tornadoes will conclude their season on May 3rd with a double header at Saint Vincent College.
