GROVE CITYSWEEP SENDS GENEVATO
FIFTH STRAIGHT LOSS

Grove City, PA - In two vastly different games at Grove City College on Tuesday, Geneva′s baseball team suffered a similar fate in both contests. Geneva dropped a pair of games to the Wolverines by the scores of 3-0 and 12-8. The loss moved Geneva′s current losing streak to five games and dropped its overall record back to the .500 mark at 13-13 for the season.

Game one developed into a pitcher′s duel that featured a complete game hurled by Geneva′s Phil Shallenberger. He three eight innings and allowed eight hits and three earned runs. Shallenberger suffered the hard luck loss after striking out four batters and walking five. Geneva′s offense could never get on track as it managed just three hits, including one each from Tadd Eyster, Andy Hiskey and Derek Sumner. Grove City posted single runs in the first, second and third innings for the only offense it would need in game one.

Game was not nearly as clean as game one. In fact, the two teams combined for nine errors, six of which were committed by the Golden Tornadoes. Matt Baer lasted just 2 1/3 innings before being lifted for Matt Lehman. Baer allowed nine earned runs and ten hits in his outing as he fell to 2-3 on the season. The Wolverines jumped out quickly with seven runs in the first inning and five more tallies through four innings. Trailing 12-4, Geneva posted a four-spot in the fifth inning to get back into the game, but could not muster any more runs the rest of the way. Geneva had 15 hits in game two, including four hit efforts from both Joel Gatti and Andy Lubich. Lubich launched his first home run of the season, while teammate Joe Jurinko hit his third homer of the campaign.

Geneva will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Waynesburg in another PAC doubleheader at 33rd Street Field beginning at 12 pm.
