TENQUALIFIERS SET FOR NCCAA
NATIONAL STAGE
Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s track and field team is set to embark on its most important weekends of the season. This Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes will travel to Washington & Jefferson for the PAC Championships. One week later, Geneva will send ten athletes to Indiana Wesleyan University for the NCCAA national track and field meet. Eight women and two men have already qualified for the event as the Golden Tornadoes will enter a total of 11 different events during the three-day meet that runs from May 1-3.
Leading the way for Geneva′s women will be Tiffany Bear, who has qualified in four different events, including the heptathlon which she qualified for last week at IUP with a total of 4,040 points. She will be very busy during the three-day event as she will also compete individually in the 200 meter, shot put and javelin. Joining Bear in the women′s javelin event will be teammates Kelsey Anderson and Jamie Williams. Anderson has also qualified for the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.59. Geneva′s female distance and middle distance runners have been the strength of the team all spring. Not surprisingly, they will be well represented at the national meet. Susan Fletcher will compete in both the 5000 meter race and the 3000 meter steeplechase. Joining Fletcher in the 5000 meter competition will be Beth Bartolomeo and Rebecca VanRegenmorter. Van Regenmorter will also join Laura Seyler in the 1500 meter event. Rounding out the female qualifiers is Nicole Okerlund, who will compete for Geneva in the 400 meter hurdles after qualifying with a time of 1:12.24.
Geneva will send a pair of men to the national meet in two weeks. Freshman Cory Fraction surprised everyone with his qualifying time of 11.27 in the 100 meter race. Alongside Fraction, Luke Duriancik will take his first shot at competing in the decathlon after posting Geneva′s third highest point total with 4,946 points last week at IUP.
