National Day of PrayerBEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Geneva College and McCarl′s will host a breakfast commemorating the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 1 from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. in Alexander Dining Hall. The keynote speaker will be Michael Geer from the Pennsylvania Family Institute, an organization devoted to research and education of the role of traditional and moral values in society.

Several community leaders will participate in the program, including Geneva's Vice President for Academic Affairs Ken Carson, Pastor Jeff McNicol of Chippewa Evangelical Free Church, Dr. John Hansen of Beaver School District and Major Robert Carney of the Beaver County Chapter of  the Salvation Army.

An annual National Day of Prayer was first enacted in 1952 by a joint resolution by Congress and signed by President Truman. In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan, permanently setting the day as the first Thursday of every May. Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. The National Day of Prayer breakfast hopes to celebrate and continue this tradition.

The breakfast is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be taken to support two local non-profit ministries, Tiger Pause Youth Ministry and Pine Valley Bible Camp.
