Three members of Geneva College′s faculty and staff gave presentations at the national Student Affairs Conference hosted by the Association for Christians in Student Development at Cedarville University in June. Jeff Kirksey, Don Opitz and Rob Rostoni were three of many conference speakers, each presenting different material designed to aid others in their field.

Jeff Kirksey, Geneva′s director of student activities, partnered with the associate director from Baylor University, Karin Klinger, to present two workshops. Focused on creating programmatic learning outcomes and applying outcomes to existing and new programs, the two sessions were titled, "Developing Programmatic Learning Outcomes: Freedom in Finding Focus" and "Connecting Philosophy with Practicality: Applying Learning Outcomes to Existing and New Programs." Kirksey states that speaking at the conference was a wonderful experience, and that hopefully the information on co-curricular learning will have an impact at the participating college campuses.

Presenting a workshop under the title of "Promoting Faithful, Academic Subcultures," Dr. Don Opitz encouraged those in education to investigate and learn about student cultures. Besides affirming educators in their roles, Opitz explained the need to decide what kind of student culture the institutes each wanted and discussed different ways to achieve the cultures. "I see it as a service I can do for my fellow teachers," says Opitz, Director of the Geneva Master of Arts in Higher Education and Associate Professor of Sociology and Higher Education.

Director of Career Development Rob Rostoni spoke at two different sessions, "How to Lead Students to Their Calling" and "Sculpting a Calling & Vocation Oriented Environment." His first workshop was geared toward equipping those in career development to engage students in their calling. Encouraging those attending to participate in the dialogue, Rostoni′s second session encouraged participants to consider how to build environments to serve the students.
