PERFECT SCRIPT, GENEVAWOMEN OPEN SEASON 2-0

Pittsburgh, PA - Geneva′s women′s soccer team could not wait for the 2008 season to begin to get rid of the bad taste of a 2-15-1 season in 2007. Head coach Linda Sumner wrote a perfect script for the opening weekend of the regular season and her young team followed it to perfection. After winning their opener 2-0 on Friday night over LaRoche, the Golden Tornadoes continued their winning ways on Saturday with a 3-0 white wash over Carlow University.

In less than 24 hours, Geneva′s women′s soccer team matched its entire win total from all of last year. Making her second straight start in goal, sophomore Lauren Londino once again kept her opponents off the board with her second consecutive shut-out. Londino turned away all six Carlow shots, including a penalty kick ten minutes into the match. Londino made a PK save and turned away the rebound to preserve the shut-out.

Geneva′s offense got going in the 25th minute when junior Amanda Caler notched her first goal of the season. Fourteen minutes later Amanda Munsch finished off of a pass from Rebecca Shaw for her second goal in as many days. The Golden Tornadoes took their 2-0 lead into halftime and closed out the scoring in the 82nd minute on Kathryn Wiater scored her first collegiate goal with the assist going to Kelsey Anderson.

Geneva out shot Carlow 7-6 in defeating the Celtics for the second time in two years. The Golden Tornadoes will put their perfect record on the line on Tuesday evening when they open their home schedule against Point Park University.
