Mann the Man As GenevaEarns Weekend Split

Cedarville, OH - Geneva took a 1-0 lead in its season opener on Friday night only to see Wilmington rally for a pair of second half goals to steal the victory. On Saturday night, the Golden Tornadoes made their 1-0 first half lead stand up for the final score in a victory over Cedarville to even their early season record at 1-1.

Geneva got the game′s only goal when freshman Josh Mann found the net on the far post off of a crossing pass from Zach Buffalini in the 16th minute. Ironically, it was Geneva′s only shot on goal of the night, but Mann made it count. Cedarville blasted five shots on goal in the game, but Dave Callahan was up for the challenge as he picked up his first Geneva victory and first career shut-out with the Golden Tornadoes.

"This was a large victory for our program," said head coach Todd Beall. "To come back and get a road win against a scholarship program like Cedarville says a lot about our guys." Undoubtedly the victory was pretty sweet for Beall as it was the first time he had returned to his alma mater on the other side of the bench. Beall played and graduated from Cedarville University. "I didn′t really think about the fact that we were playing my alma mater," said Beall. "The guys certainly knew it and I think it made them work especially hard. It was just a good victory regardless of the opponent."

The Golden Tornadoes will return to Beaver Falls next week to begin the home portion of their schedule. Geneva will host Point Park University at Merriman Athletic Complex on Tuesday night at 7 pm.
