As August winds through its final weeks, countless parents bid farewell to their college-bound children. The Geneva College campus filled with both new and returning students this past week, bringing life to the buildings and courtyards that were relatively quiet during the summer.

The fall 2008 semester is the second year in a row that the new-student enrollment goal has been met during the summer months. The 450+ new students mark a 10% increase over last year′s enrollment figures.

“It′s exciting and satisfying to see the variety of students who have come to campus,” says admissions counselor Anne Modro. “We work to build relationships with students throughout the year, so it′s wonderful for this hard work to come to fruition.”

Dean of Students Mike Loomis is enthusiastic about the incoming class. “[Last week] was a very eventful week, and we are excited about the students God has brought to Geneva this fall.”

During the week prior to the start of classes, freshmen and new transfer students took part in several orientation events designed to help students get involved in both campus life and surrounding community.

“The new students are engaging, full of energy, and have demonstrated an amazing willingness to jump in and take part in all of the events, team building activities, service projects and class sessions that were planned for them,” says Loomis. “Overall, we are excited about the year ahead and continue to pray for transformation in the lives of our students.”

“I′m really excited to finally be here,” says freshman Bonnie Smith. “I′ve known about the school for almost my whole life, and it′s incredible to experience all of the things I′ve heard about. I can't wait to get to know the professors, and I look forward to so many classes.”
