GENEVADEFEATS HOSTHIRAM TO GAIN DAYONESPLIT

Hiram, OH - Geneva′s women′s volleyball team opened the 2008 season by splitting four matches last weekend at the Johns Hopkins Tournament. That trend continued on Friday night as the Golden Tornadoes split a pair of matches on day one of the Hiram College Tournament. Geneva dropped the first match of the evening 3-1 to John Carroll before rallying to defeat the host school Hiram College 3-1. The split moved Geneva′s overall record to 3-3.

The Golden Tornadoes did not have much to celebrate in the first match as John Carroll controlled the tempo all evening. Adriane Blake led the offense with nine kills and also led the way with 13 digs. Brandi Snavely chipped in with 27 assists in the three game loss.

Match two turned out much better for the Golden Tornadoes as they took control of the match after splitting the first two games against Hiram. Blake once again paced Geneva with 20 kills and 22 digs. Rachel Kuegler added 11 kills while Michelle Zimmovan added eight throw downs and a team best four blocks. Snavely quarterbacked the offense beautifully with 43 assists.

Geneva will get right back into action on day two of the tournament with a pair of matches. The Golden Tornadoes open with Ursuline and close out the tournament against Kenyon.

Geneva will open its home schedule on September 20th when it hosts St. Vincent and Thiel.
