BeaverFalls, P A - It may have seemed like a dream but it was the real deal for sophomore Matt Weaver as he picked the perfect time to score his first goal of the season. Seven minutes into the first overtime period Weaver snuck a ball into the corner of the net that LaRoche goalkeeper Happel Jonathan could not keep from crossing the line and the Golden Tornadoes escaped with a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory. The win was Geneva′s fifth straight as the Golden Tornadoes moved to 5-1 on the season, while the Redhawks dropped to 1-4.

Geneva opened the scoring in the 11th minute on a blistering shot from Caleb Musselman. The unassisted goal stood up until the 23rd minutes when the Redhawks tied the game on a goal from Davis Jared. Neither team could find the net throughout the rest of regulation which set the scene for Weaver′s heroics.

Weaver would not have had the opportunity to score the game winner had it not been for the goalkeeper acrobatics of senior Sam McCracken. McCracken turned away eight shots, including back to back saves with 13 minutes remaining in regulation that sent a stir through the Merriman Athletic Complex. A diving save off of a header and then a leaping stop on the rebound kept the game tied and gave Geneva a chance to win it in overtime. Jonathan was equally tough to beat for LaRoche with 11 saves on the night.

Geneva had 13 shots on goal to LaRoche′s nine, but it was an even match from start to finish.

The Golden Tornadoes will get right back to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Franciscan University for a 5:30 kickoff. Geneva will return home next Tuesday to host Pitt-Greensburg.
