SEVENTH HEAVEN, GENEVAWINSTREAK

HITSSEVEN WITH VICTORY OVER UPG

Beaver Falls, PA - Seven was indeed a lucky number for the Golden Tornadoes on Tuesday night as Geneva′s men′s soccer team moved to 7-1 on the season on the strength of a 2-1 victory over Pitt-Greensburg for its seventh consecutive victory.

After a slow start, the Golden Tornadoes broke the scoreless tie in the 25th minutes when leading goal scorer Bruce Fox picked up a loose ball and drove his fifth goal of the season into the back of the net. Geneva added to its lead nine minutes later when freshman Zachary Buffalini tallied his second goal of the season off a brilliant feed from Austin Petrie. Pitt-Greensburg had very little offense to show for in the first half with just two shots on goal.

Time of possession was again controlled by Geneva in the second half but the Golden Tornadoes were unable to extend their lead. The Bobcats made things somewhat interesting when Nick Wayno took a ball off the cross bar and headed it past Geneva goalkeeper Sam McCracken to cut Geneva′s lead in half with just two minutes remaining in the game. UPG never again threatened the Geneva goal and the Golden Tornadoes held on for their seventh straight win. McCracken made three saves in the game to register his fourth victory of the season.

Geneva out shot Pitt-Greensburg by a convincing 22-10 advantage, but UPG goalkeeper Christopher Stangi kept the Bobcats in the match with seven saves.

The Golden Tornadoes will enjoy another extended break before getting back to action next Monday night at home against Penn State Beaver.
