STREAK ENDS WITH 2-1 LOSS TO W & J

Beaver Falls, PA -Geneva′s men′s soccer team saw its ten game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night with a 2-1 loss to Washington & Jefferson at the Merriman Athletic Complex. The loss dropped Geneva′s overall record to 10-2, while W & J improved to 4-4-3.

Trailing by a goal into the final moments of regulation, Geneva seemingly scored the game tying goal with just less than two minutes remaining on a Jake McCracken header off of a corner kick. The goal was disallowed because of a foul in the box and Geneva never threatened the rest of the way.

Washington & Jefferson got on the board first in the 38th minute when Jonathan Moore found the ball in the middle of a scrum and beat goalkeeper David Callahan. Geneva tied the game just six minutes later and with only 22 seconds remaining before the half. Austin Petrie netted his first collegiate goal when Kenton Burckhart′s corner kick deflected off the foot of Bruce Fox right to Petrie who buried the ball into the net.

Washington & Jefferson′s Jeremy Delmaster got the game winner in the 69th minute when he was able to push the ball into the net between a pair of Geneva defenders.

W & J out shot Geneva 15-10 for the match, but each goalkeeper was forced to make three saves in the match. Playing on a very wet and muddy track the going was difficult for all 90 minutes, but the Presidents were able to get the better of the play for most of the night.

Geneva will try to get back into the win column on Saturday night when it travels to Westminster. The Golden Tornadoes return home next Friday night to host Saint Vincent. College.
