TORNADOES TUMBLE, FALL TO 1-4 WITH
LOSS AT
GROVECITY

Grove City, PA - Geneva made the short trip to Grove City on Saturday, but someone forget to tell the Golden Tornadoes that the kick-off was at 1:30. The Golden Tornadoes could not have started any worse than they did by allowing a pair of scoring drives on the first two Grove City possessions of the game. The game for Geneva went downhill from there and the Golden Tornadoes dropped a 38-13 decision to Grove City and fell to 1-4 for the first time in the 16 year career of Geno DeMarco.

With just under two minutes remaining in the first quarter, Geneva′s offense had run three unsuccessful offensive plays and Grove City had racked up a pair of scoring drives of 57 and 73 plays respectively. After the Wolverines extended their lead on Stephen Mercer′s 83 yard punt return, the longest in Grove City history, the score at the end of the first quarter read 21-0. Grove City extended its lead one more time when Clayton Hall scored on a 34 yard pass from Andrew DiDinato with 3:17 remaining in the first half. Geneva′s first sign of life came on the ensuing kick-off when freshman A.J. Delmonico scored on an 88 yard kickoff return to put Geneva on the board.

Geneva′s only other points came in the final two minutes of the game when Stuart Bell caught an eight yard touchdown pass from David Girardi.

Geneva was making its first appearance at Grove City since 1982 and the win for the Wolverines was the first against the Golden Tornadoes since 1979. The Wolverines improved to 4-2 on the season while Geneva fell to 1-4 for the first time since an 0-4-1 start in 1991.

One of the lone bright spots for the offense was the performance of tight end Stuart Bell. In addition to catching his first touchdown of the season, he pulled in a team best seven passes for 77 yards. Girardi was 15-35 for 160 yards through the air, while the running attack was led by Gerard Muschette′s 57 yards on nine carries.

Geneva′s defense allowed 380 total yards, including 189 yards on the ground. Matt Curry led the defense with 13 tackles, while Dan Terracciano had 11 tackles and returned an interception 45 yards on the only Grove City turnover of the game.

Geneva will look to get back on the winning track next weekend when it returns to Reeves for a Saturday night meeting against Waynesburg University.
